Kothmühle –
History & tradition
The mill from the 14th Century has been in our family since 1866. In 1912 it became an inn and has grown in to the 4* Hotel RelaxResort Kothmühle.
The name Kothmühle has stood for family business, hospitality and quality for generations. Today, where the mill and later an inn used to be, modernity and tradition combine into relaxed completion in the form of a spa hotel.
The Kothmühle was first mentioned in documents as early as 1316 as one of the oldest mills in the Ulmfeld territory. Originally it belonged to the Meierhof and Sitz Lixing and was sold with the entire Lixing possessions to the Bishop of Freising before 1300.
The Kothmühle has belonged to our family since 1866, when Josefa and Franz Scheiblauer from Euratsfeld bought the run-down mill. In 1911, their son Johann Scheiblauer took over the family business, received the guest concession in 1912 and continued the tradition as the Gasthaus Kothmühle. Johann and his wife both fell victim to the hard war years that followed. When Johann's oldest son, Rupert, and his wife, Theresia, took over in 1931 the inn experienced a revival.
Success through expansion
We grew into a seminar hotel by adding rooms and conference facilities.
In 1998 the chapter of the RelaxResort began.
The success story of today's RelaxResort Kothmühle began in 1968 when Marianne and Johann Scheiblauer took over. The first large wing was built in 1969 – and the inn became a seminar hotel. By 1995, the hotel grew to 74 guest rooms and 5 seminar rooms through numerous expansion phases.
Johannes Scheiblauer took over the successful hotel in 1998 with his wife Christiane and expanded to 91 guest rooms, 10 seminar rooms, an 800m² spa area and a 2 hectare RelaxGarden by 2004. 8 hectares of agriculture land have been kept to this day. They are used for growing fruit and for the production of our own distilled goods and fruit juices.
Since 2011, Johannes and Christiane Scheiblauer have been the leaseholders of the hotel Schloss an der Eisenstrasse in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. 92 further rooms, 1.000m² of seminar space and a fitness and vitality area await the guests at this castle hotel.
In a few years, the Scheiblauer family's next generation – Johannes, Bernhard und Evelyn – can continue to add on to the success story of the Kothmühle with their own ideas.
